Old Testament vs. New Testament: What's the Difference?
The Bible is divided into two major sections — the Old Testament and the New Testament — covering different time periods and central figures.
The Old Testament
Covers creation, the history of ancient Israel, law, prophecy, poetry (including the Psalms), and wisdom literature, written before the birth of Jesus.
The New Testament
Centers on the life, teachings, death, and resurrection of Jesus, followed by the early Christian church, told through the Gospels, letters (epistles), and Revelation.
Different lengths, different structure
The Old Testament is considerably longer and spans a much wider historical timeframe than the New Testament, which covers roughly a single century.
